ParticipantWell Artless Bodger what can I say,, Seeing Her, No2, In the final days of production really makes me sad. I was 18 years of age when I first went into that machine house 1965 and left in 1971. I’m now 74 years of age and being able to look back at the photograph of No 2 in operation gives me immense pleasure knowing I worked on her. THANK YOU.!!!
Mike Presneill. PS. Be nice to have a chat at some point in time.!!??

ParticipantDeep Joy tinged with some sadness. Because of these photographs I now know how No 2 machine ended her long working life having been built in the early 1920’s. I would like to have imagined she would still be producing paper somewhere in the World. However, we all have to go at some point in time. Hopefully, sometime this year, I should be able to commend my memories of working on No 2 from 1965-1971 to this site.!!

ParticipantArtless Bodger you are a mind of information and I thank you for your contribution to my request for info. It strikes me your mind is as sharp as mine when it comes to your time in the mill. When I look at even the earliest of photographs, It really does bring back memories of my time on No 2.
When I’ve collated enough info for me to put together my memories of my time on No 2 I will then add my contribution to this site. I’m still looking for events(dates/times and what happened to both machines) up to the point of when each machine was finally shut down and what happened to them after that. Be smashing to find photographs of No 2 after her rebuild around 1975 and up to closure.
Stay safe.

ParticipantHi Paul,,
Thanks for getting back to me.
OK I now see what you are saying about the time scale. Yes, a bit before my time. Out of interest what did your dad do whilst he was at Aylesford and,, If you manage to find any info/leads regarding East Mill please let me know. Don’t ask me why but I’m desperately looking for photographs of the mill and especially No 1 and No 2 machines, that’s if any exist. 1965-1971 was a smashing time in my life and working at East Mill was a pleasure.
Thanks.

ParticipantHi Paul, I signed to this website March 2020. I worked at East Mill No 2 machine 1965-1971 and like you, am looking for information/photographs or contacts relating to this particular mill. You Imagine your father worked at the mill. Would you like to give me his name just in case it rings a bell somewhere. I had two uncles who also worked at the mill but I’m not sure of the time periods. My uncles were Frank Presneill (Overhead crane driver West Mill) and the other was Eric Presneill. He worked on the Island site so that must have come much later in time. My real Interest is in what happened to No 1 and No 2 machine following the redundancies in 1971 and what happened to both machines when the East mill was finally closed and demolished. Hope to hear from you in due course. Mike Presneill. Medway.

ParticipantHi Kevin, have only just found the site and registered. I worked on 1&2 machine in about 1965-1971. I would like to imagine I can shed some light on both machines in time. I’am unable to open the photographs which you have uploaded. Can you help please.
Regards.
