Chirnside Milll – No Thank You

I well remember when the factory opened for the teabag manufacture. Scotland was part of my territory and I phoned them and asked if I could arrange a visit. I was told, quite brusquely, that they did not need our products and would not therefore accept a visit. They described their papermaking process as ‘secret’ and would not discuss the operation. We understood that the wires and felts were imported from the US, at least initially, but in my time at Scapa-Porritt, we were never able to break through the barrier.  I was reminded of this just recently, having viewed an episode of ‘Inside the Factory’ which dealt with teabag making.
