I joined Inveresk Group in 1967 and was employed as Sales Representative covering Scotland, N.E.England and, laterly, all Ireland, selling for all the Group Mills – including the Collins M G Mill.

Many memories come alive now – when, following a heavy downpour, the river would become brown so the Mill could not make any MG White Poster. My main sales were for MG Envelope manilla papers both plain and basket and ribbed felt finish. My main client was WT Stationery in Aberdeen who ordered their Ribble MG Ribbed Manilla.

It was the problem with the river debris that lost the mill tonnage of MG White from the Samuel Jones factory in Tilicoultry. I remember that I had to visit them not long after joining Inveresk to tell them we could no longer supply them and had to cancel all orders on hand! I was not popular with them but earned some credit from my new employer!!

So sad to see them close which happened after I had left the Scottish Office to join the Group’s Export Office based in the St Cuthbert’s Paper Mill in Wells, Somerset – another one gone!
